SMS Messaging¶
Menu Location: Settings > SMS Messages > SMS Messaging (brinks.php)

Overview¶
The SMS Messaging page is where you turn text messaging on for your store, see your store's SMS number, and control the automated texts customers receive. Once SMS Messaging is enabled, you can send messages through the Customers and Orders pages, and customers can text your store back.
Primary Functions:
- Turn customer SMS login on or off (log in with a texted code instead of a password)
- Enable or disable SMS Messaging and get your store's SMS number
- Set the sending window and the morning notification time
- Edit the automated message templates (weekly order, delivery, pickup)
- Turn individual automated messages on or off
Customer SMS Login¶
This card lets customers log in with a one-time code texted to their phone instead of a password. It works whether or not you have your own SMS number:
- With your own SMS number: codes are texted from your store's number.
- Without your own SMS number: codes are texted from the shared Kiva Logic number (+1 207-705-5071). Enable SMS Messaging below to send them from your own number instead.
Use the toggle to turn SMS login on or off. Turning it off shows a confirmation, since customers will no longer be able to log in with a texted code.
The customer login page accepts an email address or a phone number with a password, and the texted-code option sits alongside the password form (it appears when a phone number is entered). The screen where customers enter their code shows only the last four digits of the number, never the full number or their name.
Enabling SMS Messaging¶
When SMS Messaging is not yet enabled, the page shows a short introduction, the price, and an enable form:
- Area Code: the area code you would like your SMS number to use.
- Select your Country: currently United States or Canada.
- Enable SMS Messaging: submits the request and provisions your number.
Pricing: $19 USD/month includes the phone number and up to 1,000 messages. Additional blocks of 1,000 messages are $15 USD. SMS add-on fees are added to the first invoice of each month.
SMS Messaging (enabled)¶
Once enabled, the page shows your number and the controls for automated texts.
Your SMS Number¶
The number customers see when they receive messages from your store.
Twilio Profile¶
Link to the profile information submitted for the number's registry (twilio_customer_profile.php).
Sending Schedule¶
Sets the window in which text messages may be sent, so customers are not disturbed late at night. Enter a Start Sending Time and End Sending Time and click Save Schedule. The page shows the current time and whether the SMS window is currently open or closed.
Automated SMS Settings¶
Weekly cycle complete and customer has an order: when set to On, an SMS is generated for each customer who has an order and a cell phone when you click Done on Step 4 of the weekly cycle.
Morning Notifications¶
Sets the time (hour, minute, am/pm) at which the "Delivery Today" and "Pickup Order Today" SMS messages may be sent out.
Weekly Order SMS Message¶
The message sent to customers when their weekly order is generated. Auto Send controls whether it goes out automatically when you click "I am done!" on the weekly cycle. The same message is editable on the Weekly Order Email page. Supports the tags **delivery_date** (the delivery date) and **first_name** (the customer's first name).
Delivery Complete via QR on Label¶
When on, a QR code is printed on each pack label. Scanning it with any internet-connected QR reader sends a delivery complete message to the customer. Supports the shortcode **order_id**.
Delivery Complete SMS via Driver App¶
When on, marking an order delivered in the driver app sends the customer an SMS. Supports the shortcode **order_id**.
Delivery Today SMS¶
When on, customers with an order for the current day receive a reminder text. Supports the shortcode **order_id**.
Pickup Order Today SMS¶
When on, customers with a pickup order for the current day receive a reminder text. Supports the shortcode **order_id**.
Disabling SMS Messaging¶
Releases your number and stops all incoming and outgoing SMS. Your number is returned and this cannot be undone, so confirm carefully before disabling.
Kiva Admin Tools¶
Kiva Logic administrators see two extra cards:
- SMS Delivery Webhook: sets up the Twilio StatusCallback so outgoing delivery status is tracked, with a Check Current Config tool that reports the live inbound webhook setup. Webhook changes are production-only.
- AI Messaging: when enabled, incoming customer texts are handled by an AI assistant instead of the keyword-based auto-responder. Links to AI Permissions & Settings for detailed configuration.
Troubleshooting¶
- Customers aren't getting codes or messages: check the Sending Schedule; messages outside the window are held.
- "Something Went Wrong" on the enable form: the number request failed; support is notified automatically.
- Customers can't log in with a code: confirm the Customer SMS Login toggle is On.
Recent Updates¶
2026-10-05
- The Customer SMS Login toggle moved here from All Settings. It is available to every store, whether or not you have your own SMS number; without one, codes are sent from the shared Kiva Logic number.
- "Brinks" branding was removed from the admin and customer text messaging screens, which now refer to SMS Messaging.
- The customer login page was rebuilt: it now accepts an email or phone number with a password, and the code-entry screen masks the phone number (last four digits only).
