Featured Products Sort

Menu Location: Products > Featured Products Sort

Overview

The Featured Products Sort page controls the display order of the products in your "Featured Sales" shop category, the set of products shown as featured across the store, homepage, and outgoing emails.

Primary Functions:

  • Reorder the products currently in your Featured Sales lineup
  • Prioritize seasonal, promotional, or high-priority products by moving them to the top of the list

This page only changes the order of products already in the Featured Sales lineup. Adding or removing products from that lineup is done on the Store page (see Related Pages below).

Page Layout

The page shows a single list of the products currently in your Featured Sales category, in their current display order. Each row shows only the product name and a drag handle icon, there are no images, prices, or category badges on this list.

Results Panel

To the right of the list is a "Results" panel. Each time you drop a product into a new position, this panel updates to show the new position number and product name for every item, confirming the save.

Drag-and-Drop Sorting

How to Reorder:

  1. Click and drag a product row to a new position in the list
  2. Drop it in the desired spot, other rows shift to make room
  3. The new order saves automatically, no separate Save button exists on this page
  4. The Results panel on the right refreshes to confirm the updated order

There is no manual "Save," "Reset," "Preview," or "Bulk Actions" control on this page. Every drop is written directly to the product order.

This page does not have an "Add Product" or "Remove Product" control, and no visibility/hide toggle. Products only appear here if they already belong to the Featured Sales shop category.

To add or remove a product from Featured Sales:

  • Go to the Store page (kiv/store-cats.php), open the Featured Sales category, and link or unlink the product or product classification.
  • Alternatively, a product can be pulled into Featured Sales automatically if it is assigned the matching "Featured Sales" special flag on the Store page's category settings, any product carrying that flag is automatically included.

Once a product is linked into Featured Sales, it appears in the Featured Products Sort list so you can position it.

A product will not show up in the Featured Products Sort list, or in the customer-facing featured sections, if it has no retail price set, or if it is flagged "Don't show on homepage" on the Products page.

Sort Order Strategies

Since position in the list drives visibility, use it deliberately:

Top positions:

  • Best-selling or highest-margin items
  • Current seasonal highlights
  • Active promotions or sale items

Middle positions:

  • Consistent sellers
  • A mix of categories, rather than one product type dominating

Lower positions:

  • Niche or specialty items you still want represented, but with lower priority

Seasonal and Promotional Rotation

There is no scheduling feature on this page, changes are live the moment you drop an item. To rotate seasonally or around a sale, you drag items into place manually and drag them back out (or unlink them on the Store page) when the season or promotion ends.

Common Use Cases

Use Case 1: Promote a Seasonal Product

Goal: Feature a new seasonal product prominently

Steps:

  1. Confirm the product is linked to Featured Sales on the Store page (if it is not yet featured at all, link it there first)
  2. Go to Featured Products Sort
  3. Drag the product to the top of the list
  4. Order saves automatically

Use Case 2: Feature Sale Items

Goal: Promote products currently on sale

Steps:

  1. Identify the products on sale
  2. Drag each into a top position in the list
  3. Keep some non-sale items mixed in rather than filling the entire top of the list with sale items
  4. Move sale items back down (or unlink them via the Store page) once the sale ends

Use Case 3: Rotate Out-of-Season Products

Goal: Deprioritize a product that is no longer in season

Steps:

  1. Drag the product further down the list to reduce its visibility
  2. Or unlink it from Featured Sales entirely on the Store page if it should not appear at all

Troubleshooting

Order Not Saving / Changes Reverting

Check:

  1. Browser console for JavaScript errors
  2. That the page fully loaded before you started dragging (drag-and-drop requires the page's JavaScript)
  3. Refresh the page and re-check the Results panel, since order saves on every drop, a stale page view can look out of sync

Drag-and-Drop Not Working

Check:

  1. Is JavaScript enabled in the browser?
  2. Are you clicking and holding the drag handle icon on the row, not just the text?
  3. Try refreshing the page
  4. Try a different, modern browser

Product Not Appearing in the List or on the Customer Site

Check:

  1. Is the product linked to the Featured Sales category on the Store page?
  2. Does the product have a retail price set?
  3. Is the product flagged "Don't show on homepage" on the Products page? If so, unflag it.

Order Not Matching What Customers See

The page's own notice states the order is saved automatically and applies across the site and in emails. If you find a place (a page, email, or section) where the saved order is not being respected, contact hello@kivalogic.com with the specific location, this is called out directly on the page itself.

  • Products (kiv/product_classifications_active.php) - the main Products page: view, add, edit all products
  • Store (kiv/store-cats.php) - set store categories, display order, descriptions and images; this is where products are linked into (or unlinked from) the Featured Sales category
  • Featured Icons (admin-edit.php?table=icons) - upload icons to attach to products for display in the store
  • Bestselling Results (kiv/bestselling.php) - control how the Bestselling sort option works in the shop, useful for identifying which products perform best before featuring them
  • Shop Searches (kiv/shop-searches.php) - see what customers search for

Typical Workflow:

  1. On the Store page, link the products you want into the Featured Sales category (or tag them with the Featured Sales flag)
  2. On Featured Products Sort, drag them into the order you want
  3. Revisit periodically to rotate seasonal or promotional items

Best Practices

Strategic Positioning

  1. Put your highest-margin or highest-demand products at the top
  2. Mix categories in the rest of the list rather than clustering one product type
  3. Revisit the order regularly, seasonal relevance fades quickly
  4. Align order with current promotions

Visual Presentation

  1. Since this list is text-only (no images or prices shown here), manage each product's actual image and price on the Products page so the customer-facing featured section looks right
  2. Don't feature so many products that the featured section becomes unwieldy on the storefront

Things to Avoid

  • Don't leave out-of-season or sold-through products sitting in top positions
  • Don't forget that unlinking/removing a product happens on the Store page, not here
  • Don't assume a product will show up here just because it's a good seller, it must be linked to Featured Sales first

FAQs

There's no hard limit or minimum enforced by the system. Keep the list focused enough that "featured" still means something, too many diminishes the effect on the storefront.

There's no set schedule enforced by the system. Many stores revisit it weekly or whenever a promotion or season changes.

No. There is no scheduling on this page, any reorder takes effect immediately.

No, this page manages a single, site-wide Featured Sales order.

How do I know which products to feature?

Check the Bestselling Results page for top performers, and consider what's in season or currently on sale.

Yes. Featured Sales is just a highlighted subset, all other products remain available through normal category browsing and search.

The system does not automatically remove or hide it from this list based on stock. Manage it manually, either reorder it down or unlink it from Featured Sales on the Store page.

No. Each product has a single position value, so it can only occupy one spot in the list.
