Connect AI (MCP)¶

Overview¶
Connect AI (MCP) shows you how to hook an AI assistant (Claude) up to your store's admin so you can run parts of it by chatting instead of clicking: "show me the promo banner settings", "change it to Free delivery this week on a green bar."
The AI works through your admin pages, using the same validation and safeguards you get when you click the buttons yourself. It never touches the database directly.
The page gives you the connection details and a ready-to-paste setup for Claude Code, then a live test that confirms your store can reach the AI service and lists which tools the AI will have.
Availability: the AI connection is currently turned on for local development only. On a live store a warning at the top of the page says it is not available yet; it will be turned on for live stores in a later release. If no API key is configured for your store, a red message tells you to contact Kiva Logic to enable it.
Primary Features¶
- Your connection details: the server URL, the API key (masked, with a Reveal
button), and the access level the AI connects with. The access level is
operator, which means it operates admin pages and has no direct database access. - Connect with Claude Code: a single ready-to-paste command for your terminal, with a Copy command button.
- Connect with a config file: the matching
.mcp.jsonblock for AI clients that use a config file, with a Copy config button. - Try it: example questions to ask once the AI is connected.
- Built-in store knowledge: when the AI connects, it is handed a short explanation of how a recurring delivery store works plus a summary of this store's current operating settings (billing, skipping, payment methods, delivery cadence, substitutions, routing). It reasons from your store's real settings instead of generic assumptions.
- Test the connection now: a Test connection button that calls the AI service from your store and reports the result.
The API key is a password. It lets the AI act as an admin of this store, so keep it private.
Common Use Cases¶
Checking whether your store can reach the AI service¶
Click Test connection. A green confirmation names the access level and the store it connected as, and lists the tools the AI would have. If it fails, a red message shows the error that came back.
Handing setup to whoever runs your AI client¶
Copy the command (or the config block) with its button and paste it into the terminal or config file of the AI client you are using. Everything it needs (server URL, key, access level) is already filled in for this store.
Troubleshooting¶
"Not available on this site yet." The AI connection runs on local development only for now. Nothing to do; it will be turned on for live stores in a later release.
"No API key is configured for this store." Contact Kiva Logic to have the AI connection enabled for your store.
"Connection failed." The text after it is the error the AI service returned. Try Test connection again, and if it keeps failing send that message to Kiva Logic.
The AI client says the key or URL is wrong. Use the Copy buttons rather than selecting the text by hand, and use Reveal to confirm you are copying the full key rather than the masked version.
Recent Updates¶
- 2026-09-11: A connecting AI client is now handed built-in store knowledge at connect time: a short explanation of how a recurring delivery store works plus a summary of this store's current operating settings, so it reasons from your real settings rather than generic assumptions. It can also answer "how many orders do we have this week" from your store's actual current-week orders, broken down by order status and box type (cancelled counted separately).
- 2026-09-10: Page added, with connection details, one-command and config-file setup for Claude Code, example prompts, and a live Test connection check.
