Bundles

Menu Location: Products > Boxes > Bundles

Overview

A bundle is a way to sell one product as a "kit" that automatically brings other products along with it, at no extra charge, whenever a customer buys it. Under the hood, a bundle is just a special box (the same box type used for subscription sign-ups), automatically named with a [BUNDLE] prefix, that holds the kit's contents. It is never offered as a subscription sign-up itself.

You build and edit a bundle's contents from the product's own edit page (Products > find the product > Edit). The Bundles page under Products > Boxes is a separate, lighter-weight view: it lists every bundle that exists and lets you edit that bundle's box-level settings (price, description, image, and the same other box settings covered in the Boxes documentation), but you cannot create or delete a bundle from this page.

This feature only appears on a product's edit page for stores set up to have customers sign up for a box/delivery schedule (the "customers must sign up for a box" shopping method). Stores using pure a-la-carte shopping may not see the Bundle panel on products.

Primary Functions:

  • Turn any product into a bundle by attaching other products to it as "contents," each with its own quantity
  • Edit what's inside an existing bundle, or remove an item from it
  • Delete a bundle (removing the kit relationship, without deleting the underlying product)
  • View the list of all bundles and edit their box-level settings (name, price, description, image, etc.)

Page Layout

The Bundles List (Products > Boxes > Bundles)

  • Page title reads "Bundles Settings"
  • Lists only boxes whose name starts with [BUNDLE]
  • Each row shows the bundle's name with an Edit action
  • No Add New button and no Delete action appear on this list (the menu's own description calls this a "view only" page for bundles), create a bundle from the product's edit page instead, and delete one from there too (see below)
  • A Back to Boxes link returns to the full Boxes list

Editing a Bundle's Settings

Clicking Edit on a bundle opens the same settings form used for an ordinary box: Name, Price, Description, Image, Display Order, Allow Cust Signup, gift-box options, tax, and (if applicable to your store) shipping/EasyPost overrides. See the Boxes documentation for what each field does, a bundle's box record uses the identical fields.

The Bundle Panel (on a product's edit page)

Editing a product (Products > edit a product) shows a "Bundle" card:

  • If the product is not yet a bundle: shows "This product is not a bundle" and a Create Bundle button.
  • If the product is already a bundle: shows what the bundle currently contains (quantity and name of each item, flagging any that are inactive or out of stock), plus Edit Bundle and delete bundle buttons.
  • If the product is linked to one of your actual subscription Boxes (not a bundle): the panel instead says "This product is the representative of one of your Boxes" and points you to the Menu Builder page to manage that box's contents.

Creating a Bundle

Steps:

  1. Go to the product you want to turn into a bundle and click Edit
  2. In the Bundle card, click Create Bundle
  3. In the modal, enter a quantity next to each product you want included (a search box and a "Show Only With Values" filter help you find items in a long product list)
  4. Click Create Bundle

This creates a new box named [BUNDLE] <product name> (not offered for customer sign-up, not shown on the Menu Builder, substitutions off), links your product to it, and saves the quantities you entered as its contents.

  1. To set the bundle's price, description, or image, go to Products > Boxes > Bundles, find it in the list, and click Edit, a bundle's price/description/image live on its box record, the same as any box.

Editing or Removing a Bundle

Steps:

  1. Edit the product that is the bundle
  2. Click Edit Bundle
  3. Adjust quantities (clearing a quantity removes that item), or add a new item by entering a quantity next to it
  4. Click Update Bundle

To see items that are currently inactive or out of stock in the contents list, click the eye icon next to the bundle contents.

To remove the bundle entirely, click delete bundle on the product's edit page. This deletes the linked box and its contents; it does not delete the product itself, the product simply stops being a bundle.

How Bundle Contents Are Delivered

When a customer orders the bundle product, the system automatically adds every one of its assigned components to their order as well, at no additional charge, the bundle's price is whatever you set as the product's own price. If the customer changes the quantity of the bundle product in their order, the quantities of its components automatically scale to match.

On recurring orders, a bundle's components are exempt from automatic substitution: the system will not swap a kit ingredient out for a substitute, so the kit's recipe stays intact. This applies to [BUNDLE] kits only; other grouped box contents (e.g. curated boxes) are still substituted as usual.

Common Use Cases

Use Case 1: Turn a Product Into a Kit

Goal: Sell "Grill Master Pack" as one product that includes several other products.

  1. Edit the "Grill Master Pack" product
  2. Click Create Bundle
  3. Enter a quantity for each product to include (e.g. 2x Chicken Breast, 1x BBQ Sauce)
  4. Click Create Bundle
  5. Go to Products > Boxes > Bundles, edit the new [BUNDLE] Grill Master Pack entry, and set its price, description, and image

Use Case 2: Update What's in a Bundle

Goal: Swap or adjust the contents of an existing bundle.

  1. Edit the bundle's product
  2. Click Edit Bundle
  3. Change quantities, clear an item you want removed, or add a new one
  4. Click Update Bundle

Use Case 3: Retire a Bundle

Goal: Stop selling a bundle.

  1. Edit the bundle's product
  2. Click delete bundle

This removes the box and its contents; if you also want to stop selling the underlying product, edit that product's own status/availability separately.

Troubleshooting

I don't see a "Bundle" option on a product's edit page

Check that your store is set up for the "customers sign up for a box" shopping method; the Bundle panel is not shown for stores using a pure shop/checkout-only setup.

A product says "This product is the representative of one of your Boxes" instead of showing bundle contents

That product is linked to a real subscription Box, not a bundle. Manage that box's contents from the Menu Builder page instead.

I created a bundle but it's not showing up under Products > Boxes > Bundles

Confirm the bundle's box name still starts with [BUNDLE] (this is set automatically when you use Create Bundle and shouldn't normally need editing).

A bundle component shows as "inactive" or "out of stock"

Click the eye icon on the bundle's contents list (on the product's edit page) to confirm which components are currently inactive or below their reserved stock level, then edit that component product directly to fix its status or stock.

  • Boxes (admin-edit.php?table=boxes): the box settings a bundle's price/description/image use
  • Menu Builder (kiv/build_menu.php): manage the contents of a real subscription Box (not a bundle)
  • Products: edit the product that a bundle is built from, and access the Create/Edit Bundle tools

Best Practices

  • Set the bundle's price on its box record (Products > Boxes > Bundles > Edit) after creating it, a new bundle has no price until you set one
  • Keep bundle contents current, if a component product is discontinued, edit the bundle to remove it rather than leaving a dead item in the kit
  • Use the search/filter in the Create Bundle and Edit Bundle modals to find products quickly in a large catalog

FAQs

Where do I create a bundle?

From the product's own edit page, not from the Bundles menu item. The Bundles page under Products > Boxes only lists existing bundles and lets you edit their box-level settings.

How is a bundle priced?

By the price you set on its box record (Products > Boxes > Bundles > Edit), the same Price field used for any box. There is no separate percentage-discount calculator or "individual products total" comparison.

Do bundle components get charged separately?

No. When a customer orders the bundle product, its components are added to the order at no additional charge.

Can customers sign up for a bundle as a recurring subscription?

No. Bundles are created with customer sign-up and substitutions turned off; they are sold as a one-time product purchase, not a subscription box.

Can I delete a bundle from the Bundles list page?

No, there is no Delete action on that list. Delete a bundle from the product's edit page using the delete bundle button.

Recent Updates

2026-08-26: Bundle kit contents are now excluded from automatic substitution on recurring orders, so a kit's recipe stays intact when items would otherwise be swapped out. Curated box contents are unaffected and are still substituted as usual.
