Overview

The Enter Bin Pickups page allows drivers and warehouse staff to quickly log reusable bin returns from customers. This data entry tool updates bin inventory counts and customer bin balances in real-time, supporting accurate bin tracking and inventory management.

Primary Functions:

  • Record bin returns from today's deliveries
  • Update customer bin balances
  • Scan or manually enter bin return quantities
  • Bulk entry for route-based pickups
  • Generate pickup receipts for customers
  • Sync with bin tracker inventory

Common Use Cases

Use Case 1: End-of-Route Bin Logging

Goal: Record all bin returns from delivery route

Steps:

  1. Driver returns from route
  2. Open Enter Bin Pickups page
  3. For each customer who returned bins:
    • Select or search customer name
    • Enter number of bins returned
    • Note bin condition (good, damaged)
    • Click "Save"
  4. Review total bins collected
  5. Match physical bin count to system count

Example: Route 5 returned 28 bins from 15 customers. Enter each customer's returns. System total: 28. Physical count: 28. Matched!

Use Case 2: Customer Bin Return at Warehouse

Goal: Log bins customer dropped off at facility

Steps:

  1. Customer arrives with bins
  2. Count bins received
  3. Open Enter Bin Pickups
  4. Search customer name
  5. Enter bin quantity
  6. Print receipt for customer showing updated balance
  7. Thank customer for returning bins

Use Case 3: Bulk Route Entry

Goal: Quickly enter all returns for a route

Steps:

  1. Select route from dropdown
  2. System shows all customers on route
  3. For each customer, enter bins returned (or leave at 0)
  4. Click "Save All"
  5. All customer balances update at once
  6. Much faster than individual entry

Use Case 4: Damaged Bin Tracking

Goal: Record bins returned damaged and remove from inventory

Steps:

  1. Enter customer bin return as normal
  2. Mark bins as "Damaged" in condition field
  3. System:
    • Credits customer for return
    • Removes damaged bins from circulation count
  4. Damaged bins sent for repair or disposal
  5. Order replacements if needed

  • Bin Tracker - View overall bin inventory and customer balances
  • Delivery Routes - Plan bin pickup logistics
  • Customer Detail - View individual customer bin history

FAQs

What if customer returns more bins than they have out?

System should warn of mismatch. Verify count. May indicate tracking error. Contact manager to investigate.

Can I edit a bin pickup entry later?

Yes, with Manager access. Search for entry and adjust. Document reason for change.

What if bin counts don't match physical inventory?

Conduct bin inventory audit. Check for:

  • Unreported pickups
  • Unreported shipments
  • Damaged bins not logged
  • System errors
