Overview¶
FedEx Rate Check allows you to query real-time FedEx shipping rates for any address combination. This tool helps validate shipping costs, compare service levels, and troubleshoot shipping rate issues before orders ship.
Primary Functions:
- Get live FedEx shipping rates
- Compare service levels (Ground, 2-Day, Overnight, etc.)
- Verify shipping costs before quoting customers
- Troubleshoot rate calculation issues
- Test address validation
- Check dimensional weight impact
Page Layout¶
Input Fields:
- Origin ZIP: Ship-from ZIP code
- Destination ZIP: Ship-to ZIP code
- Package Weight: Weight in pounds
- Package Dimensions: Length x Width x Height (optional)
- Submit Button: Get rates
Results Display:
- Service Level (FedEx Ground, Express Saver, etc.)
- Delivery Date (estimated)
- Rate (cost)
- Transit Time (business days)
Using the Rate Checker¶
Steps:
- Enter origin ZIP (your warehouse/hub)
- Enter destination ZIP (customer address)
- Enter package weight in pounds
- Optionally enter dimensions for dim weight calculation
- Click "Get Rates"
- Review all available service levels and costs

Use Case 1: Quote Shipping to New State¶
Before expanding to new state, check typical shipping costs to addresses there.
Use Case 2: Troubleshoot High Shipping Cost¶
Customer complains about $45 shipping - verify rates justify the cost.

Determine cost difference between Ground (5 days) and 2-Day Express.

Understanding Results¶
Service Levels:
- FedEx Ground: Most economical, 1-5 business days depending on distance
- Home Delivery: Residential ground with weekend delivery
- Express Saver: 3 business days by 4:30 PM
- 2Day: Delivery by end of 2nd business day
- Standard Overnight: Next business day by 3 PM
- Priority Overnight: Next business day by 10:30 AM

- Distance (origin to destination)
- Weight
- Dimensions (dimensional weight may apply)
- Service level selected
- Residential vs. commercial delivery
Troubleshooting¶
No Rates Returned¶
- Verify valid ZIP codes
- Check weight entered correctly
- Ensure dimensions in inches (not centimeters)
- Try without dimensions if getting errors
Rates Different from System¶
- Check if system using different weight
- Verify same service level
- Account for residential surcharge
- May include insurance or signature fees

Are these live FedEx rates?¶
Yes, real-time rates directly from FedEx API. Same rates FedEx would charge.
Why do rates change?¶
FedEx updates rates annually (typically January). Rates also vary by fuel surcharges.
Can I see discounted rates?¶
Depends on system integration. May show list rates or your negotiated contract rates.
What if customer address not in system?¶
Use rate check to quote shipping before customer signs up.
