Steps:
- Select "Fall 2024" and "Fall 2025" seasons
- Run comparison report
- Review revenue change: +$50K (+25% growth)
- Analyze what drove growth (more customers, higher AOV, or both)
- Use insights to forecast Fall 2026
Use Case 2: Seasonal Marketing ROI¶
Goal: Determine which season delivers best marketing return.
Analysis:
- Run report for all four seasons
- Compare new customer acquisition by season
- Calculate marketing cost per season
- Determine ROI: Summer highest with $5 marketing spend per $100 revenue
- Allocate more budget to summer campaigns next year
Use Case 3: Inventory Planning¶
Goal: Forecast inventory needs for next summer.
Steps:
- Compare last 3 summers
- Identify consistent top products
- Calculate average units sold per summer
- Apply growth rate to forecast next summer
- Order inventory 2 months before summer based on forecast
Use Case 4: Identify Seasonal Product Opportunities¶
Goal: Discover products to feature each season.
Analysis:
- Run detailed product report for each season
- Notice "Burger Patties" peak in Summer (4x other seasons)
- "Soup Bones" peak in Winter (3x other seasons)
- Create seasonal product bundles based on patterns
- Feature relevant products in seasonal marketing
Use Case 5: Customer Retention Strategy¶
Goal: Improve retention of customers acquired during slow season.
Findings:
- Winter-acquired customers have 40% lower retention
- Summer-acquired customers have 60% retention
- Hypothesis: Seasonal product fit or onboarding differences
- Strategy: Improve winter customer onboarding, offer year-round products
- Test with Winter 2026 cohort
Interpreting Results¶
What to Look For:
Positive Indicators:
- Consistent or growing revenue year-over-year per season
- Increasing customer counts
- Improving retention rates
- Rising average order value
- Growing mix of new + returning customers
Warning Signs:
- Declining revenue same season year-over-year
- Decreasing customer counts
- Falling retention rates
- Over-reliance on single season for annual revenue
- Shrinking average order value
Strategic Insights:
- If one season dominates: Develop campaigns to boost slower seasons
- If retention low: Invest in loyalty programs and customer service
- If new customer acquisition declining: Increase marketing spend
- If AOV dropping: Create bundles, upsell opportunities

FAQs¶
How far back does historical data go?¶
Depends on when system implemented and seasons defined. Typically 2-5 years available.
Can I create custom date ranges?¶
Seasons must be predefined in Seasons Settings. For custom date ranges, use Orders Report with date filters.
Why do season totals not equal annual total?¶
If seasons don't cover full year or overlap, totals won't match. Ensure seasons cover 365 days with no gaps or overlaps.
Can I compare more than two seasons?¶
Yes, select up to 10 seasons for comparison. Useful for multi-year trend analysis.
How do I account for growing business?¶
Look at percentage growth, not just absolute numbers. Also review "same season last year" comparisons.
Should I include cancelled orders?¶
Typically no - reports show completed orders only. Configuration option may exist to include all orders.
