Overview¶
The Featured Products Sort page allows you to control the display order of featured products on the customer-facing shop and homepage. This drag-and-drop interface makes it easy to prioritize high-margin items, seasonal offerings, or promotional products.

- Reorder featured products display
- Promote specific products to top positions
- Control product visibility in featured sections
- Manage seasonal product prominence
- Optimize product presentation for conversions
Page Layout¶
Header Section¶
- Page Title: "Featured Products Sort"
- Save Button: Apply new sort order
- Reset Button: Restore default sorting
- Preview Link: View customer-facing display
Featured Products List¶
- Drag-and-Drop Interface: Visual product cards
- Product Cards: Show image, name, price, current position

Featured Products Interface¶
Product Card Display¶
Each product card shows:
- Product Image: Thumbnail of product
- Product Name: Full product title
- Current Price: Customer-facing price
- Position Number: Current display order (1, 2, 3, etc.)
- Drag Handle: Icon for reordering
- Visibility Toggle: Show/hide in featured section
- Category Badge: Product category label
Drag-and-Drop Sorting¶
How to Reorder:
- Click and hold on drag handle (⋮⋮ icon)
- Drag product card up or down
- Drop in desired position
- Other products adjust automatically
- Position numbers update in real-time
Visual Feedback:
- Dragging: Product card highlights and lifts
- Drop Zone: Blue line shows where product will land
- Updated Order: Numbers update immediately
- Unsaved Changes: Yellow banner indicates unsaved changes
Managing Featured Products¶
Adding Product to Featured List¶
Steps:
- Scroll to bottom of featured products list
- Click "Add Product to Featured" button
- Search for product by name
- Select product from dropdown
- Product appears at bottom of list
- Drag to desired position
- Click "Save Order"
Requirements:
- Product must be active
- Product must have image
- Product must have price
- Product must be visible on website
Removing Product from Featured List¶
Method 1: Visibility Toggle
- Find product in list
- Click visibility toggle (eye icon)
- Product stays in list but hidden from customers
- Can re-enable later without re-adding
Method 2: Delete
- Find product in list
- Click delete icon (X)
- Confirm removal
- Product removed from featured list entirely
- Must re-add if needed later
Which to Use:
- Visibility Toggle: Temporary hide (seasonal rotation)
- Delete: Permanent removal from featured list
Visibility Control¶
Visible (Eye Open Icon):
- Product shows in featured section on customer site
- Position in sort order maintained
- Customers can browse and purchase
Hidden (Eye Closed Icon):
- Product hidden from featured section
- Remains in sort list for easy re-activation
- Still available through search/categories
- Use for seasonal rotation

Positions 1-3:
- Prime real estate - highest visibility
- Best performers - highest conversion products

During Sales:
- Move sale items to top positions
- Group promotional items together
- Intersperse with full-price items
- Feature high-margin sale items first
- Position complementary products nearby
Actions & Operations¶
Saving Sort Order¶
Steps:
- Arrange products in desired order
- Verify preview looks correct
- Click "Save Order" button
- System processes changes
- Confirmation message appears
- Changes live immediately on customer site
Auto-Save:
- Some systems auto-save after 2 seconds of inactivity
- Yellow indicator shows unsaved changes
- Don't close page until saved
Resetting to Default¶
Purpose: Restore original sort order
Steps:
- Click "Reset to Default" button
- Confirm action
- Products return to default order (typically alphabetical or by creation date)
- Visibility settings may also reset
- Save if you want to keep default order

- Accidentally messed up sort order
- Starting fresh with new strategy
- Seasonal reset to baseline
Bulk Visibility Changes¶
Hide Multiple Products:
- Click "Bulk Actions" button (if available)
- Select products to hide
- Choose "Hide Selected"
- Products hidden but remain in list
Show Multiple Products:
- Filter to show hidden products
- Select products to show
- Choose "Show Selected"
- Products become visible
Preview Changes¶
Before Saving:
- Arrange products
- Click "Preview" button
- New window shows customer view
- Verify product order and appearance
- Close preview
- Adjust if needed
- Save when satisfied
Preview Options:
- Desktop view
- Mobile view
- Tablet view
- Featured section only
- Full homepage
Common Use Cases¶
Use Case 1: Promote New Seasonal Products¶
Goal: Feature new spring products prominently
Steps:
- Navigate to Featured Products Sort page
- Find new spring products in list (or add if not present)
- Drag spring berries to position #1
- Drag spring greens to position #2
- Drag asparagus to position #3
- Move winter items to positions 10+
- Preview customer view
- Save order
- Monitor sales impact
Result: New seasonal products get prime visibility, driving sales
Use Case 2: Featured Sale Items¶
Goal: Promote products on sale this week
Steps:
- Identify products currently on sale
- Drag sale items to positions 1-5
- Ensure variety (not all same category)
- Position best margin sale items first
- Keep some non-sale items in top 10
- Update product cards with "Sale" badge if needed
- Save order
- Set reminder to revert after sale ends
Tips:
- Don't make entire featured section just sale items
- Mix categories for variety
- Update weekly as sales rotate
Use Case 3: Seasonal Transition (Summer to Fall)¶
Goal: Gradually shift from summer to fall products
Steps:
- Week 1: Add fall products to positions 8-10
- Week 2: Move fall products to positions 5-7
- Week 3: Fall products to positions 2-4
- Week 4: Fall products dominate positions 1-5
- Summer products gradually move down
- Hide summer products when out of season
- Keep popular year-round items in top 10

Use Case 4: Holiday Product Promotion¶
Goal: Feature Thanksgiving/holiday products
Steps:
- Two weeks before holiday: Add holiday items to featured list
- Position holiday items in spots 5-10
- One week before: Move to positions 2-5
- Week of holiday: Positions 1-3
- After holiday: Remove or hide holiday items
- Restore regular featured products
- Save new order

Goal: Test if product performs better in different positions
Steps:
- Week 1: Place Product A in position #1, track sales
- Week 2: Move Product A to position #5, track sales
- Week 3: Move Product A to position #10, track sales

Troubleshooting¶
Changes Not Saving¶
Symptoms:
- Click Save but order reverts
- No confirmation message
- Changes disappear after refresh
Solutions:
- Check browser console for errors
- Verify you have Manager or Admin permissions
- Try refreshing page and re-sorting
- Clear browser cache
- Try different browser
Common Causes:
- JavaScript error on page
- Permission issue
- Session timeout
- Browser compatibility
Drag-and-Drop Not Working¶
Symptoms:
- Can't drag product cards
- Cards snap back to original position
- Drag handle not responding
Check:
- Is JavaScript enabled in browser?
- Are you clicking drag handle (not the card)?
- Is browser supported (modern Chrome, Firefox, Safari)?
- Try refreshing page
- Disable browser extensions temporarily
If Problem Persists: Use numbered position fields (if available) to manually set order
Products Not Appearing in Customer View¶
Symptoms:
- Products show in admin sort page
- Don't appear on customer site
- Featured section empty or partial
Check:
- Is product visibility enabled (eye icon open)?
- Is product marked as "Active" in product settings?
- Does product have image uploaded?
- Is product price set?
- Is product in stock?
- Clear cache and check again
Solutions:
- Enable visibility for hidden products
- Check product settings in Products page
- Upload product image if missing
- Verify inventory status
Preview Not Matching Live Site¶
Symptoms:
- Preview shows different order than live site
- Some products missing in preview
Check:
- Have you saved changes?
- Is there caching on customer site?
- Are you previewing correct page section?
- Refresh preview after saving
Solutions:
- Save changes before previewing
- Clear site cache (may require admin)
- Check live site after 5-10 minutes
- Hard refresh customer page (Ctrl+F5)

How many featured products should I have?¶
Recommended: 12-20 products
- Too few: Limited selection, missed opportunities
- Too many: Overwhelming, dilutes "featured" impact
- Sweet spot: 15 products allows variety without overload
How often should I update the featured products order?¶
Minimum: Monthly Recommended: Weekly or bi-weekly During promotions: Daily if needed
Regular updates keep content fresh and respond to seasonal changes.
Does the sort order affect SEO?¶
No, the sort order is primarily for visual display. However, featuring popular products can improve user engagement metrics, which indirectly benefits SEO.
Can I schedule featured product changes in advance?¶
This feature varies by system. Some allow scheduled updates, others require manual changes. Check with your system administrator.
What if I want different featured products for different customer segments?¶
Some systems allow segmented featured products (e.g., by location or customer type). Check your system capabilities or contact admin for custom setup.
How do I know which products to feature?¶
Review:
- Bestselling Products report (high demand)
- Profit margin data (high profitability)
- Seasonal availability (what's in season)
- Customer feedback (requested items)
- Inventory levels (items you have plenty of)
Can customers see products that aren't featured?¶
Yes! Featured products are just highlighted. All products are still available via:
- Category browsing
- Search function
- Direct product links
- Shop all products page
Does featuring a product increase sales?¶
Generally yes:
- Position 1-3: 40-60% higher click-through
- Position 4-10: 20-30% higher click-through
- Position 11+: 5-10% higher than non-featured
Results vary by product, season, and customer base.
What happens if a featured product goes out of stock?¶
Best practices:
- Manually hide the product immediately
- Move an in-stock product to that position
- Re-enable when back in stock
Some systems auto-hide out-of-stock featured products.
Can I feature the same product in multiple positions?¶
No, each product can only appear once in the featured list. However, you can feature different variations (sizes, types) of similar products.
